Farncombe parking result

The Surrey County Council officers report has just been published ahead of their May 9th meeting on the proposed changes to residents permit parking. George Road, Grays Road and Elizabeth Road are the only roads to be exempted from the residents permit parking saga. I’d call that a win for Farncombe residents!

Here is the summary table of proposed decisions for Godalming:

A full document of responses to the Surrey scheme can be found here. Godalming starts at page 32.
In the Farncombe Grays/George/ Elizabeth road area 217 people responded, with only 27 in support. To be fair Grays Road were mostly in support, but as the report notes “having a scheme in Grays Road only will be going against the majority views of the town”. 70 objections were from residents of George Road (still only 32% of total objections) which led the officers to say ” there is clearly a lack of support for permit bays in George Road which is the heart of the residents scheme”.

I am pleased that my campaign, and my petition, have helped highlight the issue for residents to respond, either way, and there is clearly a significant weight towards no change.

Other areas of Godalming are not so lucky, with residents parking introduced in Croft Road, and across the whole Latimer Road, Townend Street area. Latimer Road had 20 objections out of 78 for the area, but the officers noted it would not be possible to exclude them from the scheme, only making matters worse.
We wait to see if these recommendations are confirmed by the Surrey Councillors on 9th May (1.30pm Baptist Church Godalming) The agenda can be found here.
